The big decision we didn't anticipate

We met with our builder Friday to discuss the first big decision. I have thought long and hard about virtually every aspect of this renovation, but I did not once - not once! - ever think about this one: the roof.

The roof? That's the first big decision? Ok, how many choices are there? Well, behold:

And those are the choices for our type of roof. There are several others. You've got your metal, your tile, even your living roof.

To make the best decision, you need to know what color your house will be. Now that, we know. For the most part. There's one accent color we haven't finalized. So we got out our paint swatches and our floor plans. We debated 'going gray v. going brown' on the roof. We drove around looking at roofs. We were amazed we'd gotten this far in life without ever giving any thought to the color of our or anyone else's roof, what with it being such a big deal and all.

So what did we choose? Slate. It's on the white board, third column, last one. The old roof is coming off soon, framing will go up and the new roof will go on. Or something like that.
