Don't get me wrong. The HD can be a great place to go for ideas and inspiration. For deciding what you do and don't like. And to see some products up close at 9pm when other stores are closed. It's even possible you'll find something you like somewhere else, and HD has it too - only cheaper.
Given everything we needed for this home renovation, though, only two things came from HD. Here's a source list for you:
- Lights. We used several sources for our lighting. Lighting Direct; Maxim Lighting Lights; Crate and Barrel; Lighting Universe; Restoration Hardware
- Bathroom vanities, bathroom shelves and laundry cabinets. Keystone Millworks, Inc.
- Vanity/cabinet hardware. Hardware Resources.
- Vanity stone. Construction Resources Inc., in Decatur.
- Tile. Traditions in Tile.
- Faucets and sinks. Ferguson for all but the tub filler, which came from Signature Hardware.
- Tubs. The small tub came from Ferguson's, the master from Signature Hardware.
- Toilets. Here's where Home Depot won out. We got Kohler toilets (available, oh, everywhere) and HD had the best prices.
- Mirrors. All but one will be custom. The non-custom one? Home Depot again.
- Wood. Okay, technically I don't have the source. However, most of the wood use in the house was custom finished, and some of it (like the porch columns) custom built on site.
- Paint. Sherwin-Williams. We used a combination of Martha Stewart, Behr and SW paint colors, but all the paint was SW.
- Front door. Tucker Door in Georgia.
- Door hardware. We haven't purchased any yet, but are currently looking at The Delaney Company as a source.
- Floor stain. Minwax Jacobean.
- Carpeting. Well, we haven't selected this yet. We've visited HD, and Bell Carpet Galleries so far.
